I’m a sucker for books. I am. I’ve been collecting D&D books for quite some time now, but learning the system if you’re not a math wizard seems to be quite a daunting task. How happy I was when I got to know FAGE, about a year ago, I cannot tell you.
As great as the book was (it was basically the DM guide, Monster Manual and player’s handbook all in one and for a fraction of the price at that), one of the criticisms it got was, and maybe rightfully so, the lack of monsters (there were some twenty-ish, I don’t know, bad at math here) and frankly quite bland monsters as well.
But you don’t look a gift horse in the mouth, and the monsters did what they had to do, being monsters and all. But sending the nth wave of Goblins to your party can seem to be quite dull, I’ll give you that.
Enter the FAGE Bestiary. What. A. Book. I’m not just saying that because I’m just smart enough to understand FAGE and not D&D, I mean it.
I’m not going to elaborate it in full detail, but I will say this: if you’re a FAGE DM, you should get this book. I did. Even though I had to get it through my brother and pay almost fifty of your American Dollars for shipping, I am not disappointed. I’ll make a selection of monsters here, mainly those I think are borrowed from D&D (who must’ve gotten some of theirs from somewhere else, as well).
Bakwanee
![Pdf Pdf](/uploads/1/2/4/6/124621519/699830200.jpg)
Those of you who (still) play Dark Sun must surely be familiar with the Bakwanee, which is basically a winged Thri-Kreen with another name. Nice stat line, but why not make them a PC-race? I know it’s a Bestiary, but the main attraction of Thri-Kreen was that even though they were alien, they were not evil per se.
Beastkin
These guys are basically Warhammer’s Beastmen. Back when Warhammer was still cool, that is.
Bouda
These are basically Gnolls with a twist: they are shapechanger Gnolls. They can appear in human (or elven, orcish, halfling, …) form at will, or they can change into a hyena that walks upright. Some of them also can change in a full-blown hyena.
Burrower
I think I remember these from D&D. Purple Worms they were called, I think. Nasty business, and in FAGE they are not nice, either.
Eldritch Crown
Basically a Mimic, but these can jump on the head of your character and modify some of their stats – and control them, while they’re at it.
Gatorkin
These guys were the free preview you can get on Green Ronin’s site (just go there, click around, never know what you may find). They are Lizardmen, but crocodiles. And as they are crocodiles and not lizards, they are a bit more vicious, as well.

Iron Maiden
This is akin to the torture tool from medieval times. Basically it can eat (N)PC’s and control them, and it’s a heavily armoured animated set of armour, as well.
Minotaur
This one could be sorted as a Beastmen, but GR did a nice thing with it and mentions the Greek Minotaur: a bit more civilized, only the head of a Bull, and option to wear armour.
Morlock

The Morlock appears in the Time Machine by Wells, and somehow made it as an enemy in FAGE, though I’m sure I found it in D&D monster manuals as well.
Night Terrors
Now this is what I call an original monster (I don’t know if it’s a copy of a D&D or other monster, but kudos to whomever invented this one). It’s a shark. It swims through the water. Except of course when it’s night, then it takes to the skies and attacks villages and people and all that. This is a monster I will use in my campaigns!
This is just a small taste of the monsters in this book. If you are a DM for FAGE, get it, you will not be disappointed!
